Vectis Radio’s licence to broadcast on FM has been renewed by regulatory body Ofcom for a further five years. The Newport-based community radio station continues to broadcast on FM 104.6, supporting local businesses, community and charity organisations. The station started life in 2010 as an internet service, first moving to FM in November 2017.
“This is fantastic news,” says station manager Ian Mac. “In the last five years, we have not only continued broadcasting through the pandemic but gained some national awards as well as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We are going to build on those successes in the next five years and now we can plan for the future with renewed confidence and look forward to expanding our management team with some additional directors”.
Fellow director Kelvin Currie said, “I am overjoyed that we can continue broadcasting and supporting our local community, not only with our broadcasting but by helping youngsters through our 4Ps Training School charity. Giving young people a chance to broadcast on live FM radio gives them a big incentive to work on their communication and confidence skills. Without Vectis Radio being on FM, that incentive would be diminished.”
