Organisers have confirmed that planning will start shortly for Smart Island Live 2020, after more than 150 businesses and 200 attendees took part in the inaugural event held at CECAMM in East Cowes. The networking event promoted ideas and opportunities around transport, waste, renewables, the built environment, digital, technology and careers. The event was organised by Future Isle Of Wight.
“As a community interest company, we had wanted to stage an event that could be repeated annually, that showed practical ways that people and businesses could make environmentally-friendly choices and use technology to save money,” says founder Vince Ward.
Isle of Wight Council’s Economic Development team helped with organisation. Knowledge Transfer Networks (part of Innovate UK) also supported the event and delivered a Masterclass programme on the day, helping businesses with their planning and funding. Speakers also included IBM’s Andy Stanford-Clark, WightFibre’s John Irvine, Vikoma’s Karen Lucas, HTP Apprenticeship College’s Simon Attrill and Carl Crawley (Made By Hippo).
