Four important island employers spoke up in support of the school, explaining how it is an integral part of their strategy to build the future workforce of the island.
Dominic Ward, General Manager of Parlex Europe spoke of how he actively recruits young people because they have the most creative ideas.
Tim Blake, Head of Commercial Maritime Services at BAe Systems in Cowes told the audience how vital the Studio School is to the island economy adding “anything this school asks of me, I will give”.
Mike Unsworth , Project Director of Navitus Bay Wind Park is hoping to recruit nearly 300 people once the park has planning permission granted next year.
Sarah McCarthy-Fry, Finance Director of GKN Aerospace, East Cowes and governor of the school explained that employers are determined to help island youngsters get one of the 200 new jobs GKN will require in the next ten years. They see the Studio School as a vital resource in this endeavour.
Richard White, Head Teacher of Isle of Wight Studio School explained to the audience “We are a small school offering our students a very personalised learning experience, specifically tailored to their career aspirations and interests. We have ambitious, high standards for our students.”
The event was extremely well received by the families attending and 17 new applications were received immediately after the event. Some families are travelling to Southampton to view the Studio School there which is operated by the same Trust.
Helen Mason, Project Director said “These employer endorsements really underline the value of a school like ours to young people here on the island. Five open Studio Schools have recently been inspected by Ofsted, all gaining good or outstanding grades. This shows that that Studio School model truly works in raising standards, helping young people get high grades and great jobs.”
