Tell the Council what you think about the proposed changes to parking charges by

Following the consultation, a report will be prepared and is likely to be presented to the Executive in July before going to the Full Council.

Following the budget this year, the council is proposing changes to many aspects of parking. These include some charges rising although many will stay the same, the removal of free parking in some areas, and extending the charging period during the day. The last time charges were increased was in 2008.

Councillor Jon Gilbey is the Executive member for resources and said: “Parking is an area that generates a lot of discussion across the Island and it is understandably something that a lot of people care about. In an ideal world we would not be proposing changes to parking but it has been well documented that the council is facing severe financial pressures and difficult decisions need to be made.

“We have already shown with areas such as the music service that we do listen during consultation and are prepared to make changes to original proposals. I can assure residents we will listen to every comment submitted to the council during the current consultation and I encourage anyone who has not sent in their views to do so before the deadline next Friday.”
