The Isle of Wight Chamber Of Commerce and Visit Isle of Wight are celebrating the award winning success of the 2015 Official Guide. The publication has been voted one of the best designed brochures in the UK, by thousands of consumers. The 2015 Official Guide’s cover was created by Island based designer Aaron Rudd and the brochure was placed second in the Best Cover category at the Carrier Direct Marketing and British Destinations Awards.
The guide is the only official publication for the Isle of Wight tourist sector, with up to 100,000 copies distributed directly to potential holidaymakers or racked at TICs across the UK. The guide’s editorial is produced by Visit Isle of Wight and the advertising and production is handled by the IW Chamber of Commerce. The organisations jointly promote the guide and fund its distribution.
The Chamber Of Commerce’s Chief Executive Kevin Smith said:
“This award exemplifies our relationship with Visit Isle of Wight in promoting the tourism industry. To be recognised in this way, ahead of so many other destinations in the UK, really highlights all the great work that we are doing together, and that’s good for the industry as a whole. There’s definitely still a place for printed guide and ours is a high quality product that promotes a fantastic destination, with brilliant attractions and businesses.”
Visit Isle of Wight’s Chief Executive David Thornton added:
“We are very pleased that the guide has received such favour. It’s very important to have a distinctive first image, showing the Isle of Wight at its best to potential tourists. The design has a really fresh and distinctive look which means that more people will pick it up and come to the Isle of Wight. Digital marketing is clearly very important but there will always be a need for a physical guide too.”
The judges described the design as “clean, fresh and different” and praised the guide for its “contemporary design that really stood out amongst the majority of other ‘stereotypical’ brochure front covers. The illustrative style conjures up a look that you could quite easily imagine being framed and hung on the wall.”
The guide was designed by Aaron Rudd Creative in Cowes. Aaron has been designing the Official Guide for the last five years and has also produced work for Sony Playstation, Canon, Liz Earle and the IW Council.
Aaron Rudd said:
“Recognition like this is always great to receive, especially when it’s about the Isle of Wight. Each year we look forward to the creative challenge of moving the design of the guide forward, making sure it evolves and offers something unique and contemporary.”
