Louise Hart from Calbourne Classics is getting set for a summer of ice cream. “We have two ice cream brands,” she explains. “Calbourne Classics, our own brand, is made in batches on the farm. Our new range, Isle Of Wight Ice Cream, is a joint venture with Medina Food Service who market and store the product and they can deliver daily. The four partners are Island people, Caroline and Steve Ross and myself and my sister Jenny.”

The new brand has 22 different flavours and is made at the factory on Riverway in Newport using Isle Of Wight milk.

“It’s been really popular. I think the Island was crying out for a new accessible brand that promoted the Isle Of Wight. People love the names of the ice cream! Luccombe Lemon Sorbet is our latest flavour and we have Merstone Mango flavour and Chillerton Chocolate Fudge Brownie, all promoting parts of the Island that many people haven’t heard of.”

“We’ve got branded flags, pavement signs, freezer branding and banners. It’s vibrant and we know people are responding to the deckchair feel and the Isle Of Wight logo. Our retail range is flying too. The Co-op and Spar are stocking it along with shops across the island. We’ve called it ‘the Caulkhead Range’ and the packaging mimics a sandcastle bucket – a perfect holiday souvenir!”
