On Friday 3rd February, the Isle of Wight Council hosted the 2023 Green Impact Awards at Calbourne Water Mill – an event which recognizes and celebrates the positive changes made by a huge number of businesses and individuals across the UK.
Over the course of the last year, Isle of Wight businesses have been taking part in Green Impact – a programme offered by SOS-UK which supports and enables organizations, universities, colleges, community institutions and students’ unions all over the country to create more sustainable working environments.
This year, 12 Island businesses were recognised across three award categories of gold, silver and bronze for their participation and effective behaviour change across areas in their work environments such as energy efficiency, waste reduction, biodiversity, and ethical procurement. Special awards were also given to individuals and teams who have shown particular enthusiasm or carried out actions of notable innovation.
Cabinet member for Levelling Up, Business Development, Regeneration and Tourism Julie Jones-Evans said “Thanks must go to our wonderful host and green heroes at Calbourne Mill for this year’s Green Impact awards and launch of this year’s programme.
Seeing such diverse businesses and hearing about their sustainability journeys was a joy. Any business of any size can use the free tool and take actions to improve their sustainability, it’s easy and rewarding.
Each action we take adds up to a big impact across the island.”
The awards ceremony is one of the most widely anticipated events in the Green Impact calendar and celebrated the amazing efforts made by many individuals to green the Isle of Wight.
