Gin and vodka distilled on the Island could make the ideal Christmas gift – for the first time ever. Conrad Gauntlett of Rosemary Vineyard has teamed up with renowned Island brewer Xavier Baker to launch a new range of products which will also include Apple Pie Moonshine, rum and brandy. Distilling the Island’s first single malt whisky, brewed and distilled with Isle of Wight barley is also about to begin. Their Wight Mermaids Gin and Rock Sea Vodka are already on-sale at outlets across the Island and the pair say they are unique, with the first ever distilling licence to be granted on the Isle of Wight.
“The response has been fantastic and we are overwhelmed by the support from the Island,” says Xavier Baker. “Everyone is having great fun with our Mermaid’s Gin and Rock Sea Vodka, experimenting with new and exciting local cocktails. For example The Tomato Stall’s tomato & cucumber cordial with Mermaid’s Gin is a refreshing winner, garnished with cucumber and juniper berries.”
