The Memorandum of Understanding between the IW Chamber Of Commerce and the IW Council has been officially signed. Council leader Ian Stephens and IW Chamber President David Groocock put pen to paper at the Chamber’s annual Cowes Week lunch, held at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club. The MoU document outlines shared objectives for economic growth and a framework for future co-operation between the two organisations.
Speaking at the signing of the MoU, Council leader Ian Stephens said:
“The MoU brings us closer together. There’s only one way for the IW Council to raise the game for the communities of this Island and that’s through business. It’s a new start, not just for the Council’s elected members but also the officers and employees. The MoU will only be as good as the amount of importance attached to it by those that have signed it. We now need to drive the local economy, putting business ethics and opportunity first, through safe and secure decision making. The Chamber offers the support mechanism and has so many connections, with the ear of the local authority and the LEP, with access to grant funding and opportunities elsewhere.”
Chamber President David Groocock said:
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for the Isle Of Wight. The Council and the Chamber working together has to be a good thing for everyone. We all get along without party politics being an issue. The Chamber is a non-political organisation and there are no barriers. Our organisations have worked together for a long time with similar objectives and the MoU lays out quite clearly the criteria for economic growth and we will now move forward together.”
