Islanders are being invited to take part in a 12-week health challenge in which they will be asked to donate one pound to charity for every pound of weight they lose. The Pounds for Pounds (£ for Lb) challenge is being run by Public Health and the council’s leisure services and will support local children’s charity KissyPuppy (The Sophie Rolf Trust). The team challenge was launched by Council leader Dave Stewart. He’s urging people to take part and join council staff and members of his Cabinet who have already signed up.
Teams will be challenged to work together to reach a target team weight loss with prizes awarded for the team which raises the most amount of money. As extra encouragement, all entrants will be entered into a prize draw to win one of three 1Leisure three-month gold card memberships valued at £145.50 each. Taster fitness classes and swimming sessions at the council’s 1Leisure centres will also be offered to those taking part.
“I will be the first to admit that I need to lose weight, but like many I need the motivation to do so. I can’t think of a better reason than raising money for KissyPuppy and I would be delighted if residents would join me in this new year challenge which I hope will slim down my waistline too!” said Councillor Dave Stewart.
Aaron Rolf, father of Sophie, said: “Once again we are privileged to be the chosen charity for such an event. The support we continue to receive never ceases to amaze us and we look forward to following the participants’ successes. And councillors doing exercise classes…how can it fail?!”
