Island businessman Eddie Minghella has been awarded the title of ‘Freeman of Ryde’. Eddie is 95 years young and it’s the first accolade of this type in a long time. Eddie has been involved in a variety of charity work over several decades and has a devotion to Ryde and the wider island community. He founded Minghella Ice Cream sixty six years ago with his late wife Gloria.
“I don’t do these things in life to be recognised,” Eddie said. “It’s just in you to want to be good or bad. I like to think of myself as a servant to the public. I wish everyone would look at the world and devote some of themselves to doing it better. Don’t think about it, just do.”
