Dianne Butler runs Vectis Administration Services in Shanklin. It’s a new start for Diane who was made redundant from her finance position at an estate agents in 2015. Building on a background in finance and business administration, this is the first time Diane has run her own business. She offers administrative support, help with financial accounts as well as providing audio transcription services for universities
“I’d always wanted to run my own business from home,” Dianne says. “I was inspired years ago to work as a ‘virtual assistant’ but I’d never had the opportunity to do it. I only needed a computer to go into business so there wasn’t much of an outlay. I did my research and went to the Job Centre who recommended the Over 50s start up course. Fiona helped me with the idea of working with sole traders and new businesses, providing them with help on their paperwork. I’m not a bookkeeper who works on a monthly contract or retainer. I can help people to get started, work with them on a regular basis or help with their tax return.
“Running my own business gives me flexibility, which is brilliant. I’m also a school governor, with family on the mainland and I wanted a bit of time to myself too. The great thing is that I’m in control – I can choose my working hours and I’m working for myself. The 50 plus network is brilliant because it brings us all together, to swap stories and help each other. Everyone is very supportive and willing everyone else to succeed. That support is invaluable.”
